My catalog is here my catalog is here!

April 18th, 2010 by Davida

OK, I’ve just finished my first catalog, optimistically entitled Spring 2010 Catalog, because I hope to update it quarterly as I create new pieces and old ones fall away (although I am including a few sold items in here).

Please please download it and peruse, give me feedback. I will also create an online version (there’s that optimism again) when I launch my new website, which is my next big project.

Jumble Bowls

April 2nd, 2010 by Davida

jumbletrio

I’ve fallen back in love with my jumble bowls after my significant other took this picture! Not that I ever fell out of love, but you know what I mean. I have another one that I’ve started. First firing came out of the kiln yesterday, I’m going to do a second fuse on it then decide which bowl shape I want to slump it into. Decisions decisions.

Plans for 2010

March 22nd, 2010 by Davida

As I don’t have any new pictures to share with you for the time being, I thought I’d give a general update.

I’d really like to get into 2 or 3 art or home shows this year to sell my stuff. I’ve been working on items with a wide price range so that everyone could afford some art glass.

Magnets

At the bottom end are these wonderful magnets I’ve been making, which go for under $5 each. Check out my etsy site to see a few that I have posted.

Mirrors

I’m planning on making small decorative mirrors with fused glass frames. These will be 3-5″ by 5-7″ and run for around $10-$25 depending on size.

More Candle Wraps

I’ve been loving the effect of kiln carving and think the technique would lend itself great to candle wraps, as the light passes through the kiln carved glass you get all sorts of wonderful effects. Specifically I have made a Mt. Hood carving that I plan to carve into the glass. Can’t wait to see how these turn out.

Lots of sheets of patterned glass

You’ve seen how I like to use little details of wildly patterned glass in all my work – I plan to make several more sheets of it to use in all my various projects. I also am going to try my hand at making a few to sell to other glass artists who may be more of a hobbyist and want to use the glass for their own projects. We’ll see how that goes.

Night lights

Another thing that I want to sell for $20-$30. I’ve got the lights and the clips, I just need to create several little beautiful pieces of glass that will look great backlit.

Tiles

Fused glass tiles make a fabulous addition to your kitchen backsplash or in your bathroom. I thought I’d try my hand at making a few sets.

Shot glasses

I was pretty happy with how my first glass experiment turned out. I’d like to make one or two sets of art glass shot glasses like these.

And so much more

Drop ring candle center piece, pyramids, plant fossil glass sheets, pattern bars from rods, pattern bar cubes, more bacon and eggs.

Other stuff

One thing I’ve been thinking about is to start filming the glass making process in my studio so I could post them here. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see exactly how that bowl is made from start to finish? Just a thought.

Sneak preview

November 1st, 2009 by Davida

Here’s another sneak preview of some of the work that will be at First Thursday.

Silvered art glass, in candle holder stand.

silveredframe

These stands are cool because they have a platform behind them to place a small pillar candle on so that your piece can be backlit. I started out with french vanilla glass that I combined with some of my patterned glass that I make then fire it. Then I place very thin silver foil over the vanilla and fire it again and it gets this wonderful reactive, silvery sheen.

Red & Teal bowl set

A set of two cereal-sized bowls, with teal, silver wire, glass powder, and a shock of red.

Sushi-style servers

I’ll have lots of sushi plates and platters. One of my favorites I’m calling water glass, where I took clear cool blue glass and melted chunks of large clear glass frit to the bottom. The effect is watery and lovely. These come in a set of three. The red piece is a larger plate and comes as a set of two – deep opaque red is set off by a strip of dramatic patterned glass.

Candle pillars

Introducing a new form, these candle pillars are curved half circles and can sit securely by themselves. They are curved around and you can easily place a pillar candle behind them to get that lovely backlit glow to shine through the glass. I’ve been playing with combining my patterned glass with black and that lovely opaline glass.

Oh, and of course

Bacon.

Getting ready for First Thursday

October 17th, 2009 by Davida

October’s been a busy month both personally and professionally. I’ve been trying to produce a lot of work for my November First Thursday in the Pearl. Here’s just a few of the things I’ve made for the show:

October Jumble Bowl

October Jumble Bowl

Another Jumble Bowl comes out of my studio. I just love making these and every one comes out different. This one features lots of reds, blues, some bacon bits (ha ha) and lots of pieces with experimental silver inlay. This guy is a large bowl – something you’d put a bunch of apples in.

Silvered Bowl Set

Silvered Bowl

I start out by creating an interesting and oh-so-subtle pattern of french vanilla stringer and french vanilla circles on a french vanilla sheet of glass and fire it. Although they are all the same color, the pattern still comes through. After the first firing, I put a very very thin sheet of pure silver on top of the plate, and fire it again. The french vanilla has a strong reaction to the silver, this is where you are seeing all those blues, greys and browns and purples coming out. The silvery sheen is retained as well, and the pattern comes through the silver. A final firing slumps it into it’s shape. Although there’s only one pictured, this is a set of two cereal-sized bowls.

Opaline Sushi Plates

Opaline Sushi with Black Lines and Clear Dots
I’ve discovered this beautiful new glass from Bullseye that is perfectly clear when you work with it. However, when it’s fired, it becomes this goooorgeous semi-translucent opalescent white with a silvery reflectiveness to it. I did two sets of sushi plates (two to each set) with very simple patterns because I wanted this gorgeous glass to be the star of the show here. One set has some lovely wavy black lines with clear dots (pictured above), and one set has a simple strip of black dichroic stringer. These ones are the size of the regular sushi plates you get at a sushi restaurant, around 4.5 by 8.5 inches.

As Seen on TV!

October 6th, 2009 by Davida

I was approached by a show producer at Baconfest who wanted to show one of my pieces on the 11pm news coverage of Baconfest. Here it is:

Baconfest was a wild ride, but I have plenty more bacon and eggs ornaments that I will be selling at my next gig (First Thursday in the Pearl), around town, and on my website. I’m also busy creating more platters, candle holders, and small sushi plates for the show.

Where I’m selling and new shows!

Bacon and Egg

Bacon and Egg

It’s been waaaay too long since I last posted, and I don’t even have good pictures to show. I’m so bad at taking pictures of my new work that I end up procrastinating it, or not doing it at all, then I have nothing to post. Bad me! Bad! Anyone want to be my photographer, just call me!!!

In the meantime, things are heating up here at Inagadda Glass Studios! I’ve got two, count ‘em, two shows coming up, one in October and one in November. I’m also selling at two new places. My kiln is going to be a busy beast in the next month!

Shops and Galleries

My work is now being sold at the Sweater Shoppe in downtown West Linn, and The Art Gallery, a new fine art gallery in Vancouver. So new apparently it doesn’t have a web presence yet. Their grand opening party were last night and tonight.

Upcoming Shows

I will be selling my kitschy glass bacon ornaments and glass fried egg ornaments at Baconfest in downtown Portland on October 3rd. Stop on by! I’m really looking forward to this one, folks. I’ll also be the Artist of the Month starting First Thursday at Ginger Salon in the Pearl. Amberleigh at the salon is faaaantastic and gave me this great opportunity, as well as pink hair. Thanks, Amberleigh!

I’d love to hear from you, and now’s the time to get in any special orders for Christmas presents. I’ve got these great new pendants that I’ve developed where I embed silver designs into the glass. Pictures coming soon. No, really, I promise, I’ve already taken them, I just gotta get them off the camera. I love you guys, MWAH!

Colorful Glass, sheet

Here’s some detail photos of my latest hand-made sheet of dramatic, multi-colored glass, still cooling in the kiln.

I will be slicing up this sheet of glass and combining the pieces with other glass to create a hanging back-lit panel, some pieces for a these new displays I got that will be backlit by candles, and if there’s enough left, a platter or two.

You can see how dramatic it is when combined with black, as I did with A Touch of Drama.

A detail

I accomplish this look by layering pieces of mostly transparent cut glass sheet, glass frit, then I top it all off with lots of clear. I fuse it at a processing temperature of 1510 degrees F so all the different layers get nice and evened out.

It’s a technique that I learned from my part time mentor, fabulous glass artist Doug Randall, and have modified the technique to work with my own working style.

A Touch of Drama

June 21st, 2009 by Davida

A sleek black sushi platter with a small strip of drama. The colorful strip embedded in the black was achieved by layering opaque and translucent colors; the result is very 3D and very cool. This is one of the most elegant pieces I’ve made yet.

The size of this platter is 15.25″ by 6.75″.

Available for $100 USD SOLD
