Colorful Glass, sheet

Colorful Glass Sheet

Here’s my latest handmade sheet of colorful glass, still cooling in the kiln. This will be sliced up and combined with other glass to create a hanging back-lit panel, some candle holder pieces, and if there’s enough left, a platter or two. You can see how dramatic it is when combined with black,as I did with A Touch of Drama.

I accomplish this look by layering pieces of mostly transparent cut glass sheet, glass frit, then I top it all off with lots of clear. I fuse it at a processing temperature of 1510 degrees F so all the different layers get nice and evened out.

A Touch of Drama

June 21st, 2009 by Davida

A sleek black sushi platter with a small strip of drama. The colorful strip embedded in the black was achieved by layering opaque and translucent colors; the result is very 3D and very cool. This is one of the most elegant pieces I’ve made yet.

The size of this platter is 15.25″ by 6.75″.

Available for $100 USD SOLD

Blue Sushi Platter

Blue Sushi Platter

I made this last year during the summer months. I am in love with playing with different shades of the same color, and I’m always a sucker for cobalt. This platter features all transparent blues and has been fired a total of three times to achieve the final product.

The dimensions of this platter are approximately 15″ x 10″. Please contact me if you’d like to purchase or commission a similar one in different colors, shapes, or sizes.

Jumble Bowl

Jumble Bowl

Waste Not. Want Not. This bowl is dedicated to my daughter, Freyja, who has learned the art of nagging early. “Mom,” she chastises on a weekly basis, “You’ve GOTTA make something out of all this scrap!”

Well, she was right. You would not BELIEVE the amount of scrap glass that I generate in the studio: cutting bits off of here, bits off of there, make a mistake cut, and so on, and before you know it you are drowning in seemingly useless odds and ends of glass. So I finally listened to my wise daughter, and created this bowl. I was very pleased with the results; it really pops.

That being said, I didn’t just throw a bunch of broken glass together and melt it. Many pieces still were still hand cut, and each piece placed by hand to assure a sense of balance in the design before being fired. Completely food safe as always.

This guy came out of my studio just a month ago. I’ve had it sitting in my front entrance for a few weeks now and whenever someone new comes in they always point and say “Wow!” Available for $100 USD SOLD
